Child, Embryo, and Pet Custody Issues

Divorce brings up a lot of issues that require resolution.

If you are getting a divorce, you have a lot of decisions to make.

For those with children, one primary consideration is taking good care of them, of course. But you may not have a clear idea of how what you do now may impact them later.

How to decide where they live, when, and what kind of co-parenting plans are possible?

Coaching can help you resolve these issues.

These are decisions that should not be made alone, especially when you are in the eye of the storm.

Our coach and parent coordinator, Cherie Morris, can help. She will be your out-of-court guide to how things can work to serve you and your children well.

Custody of embryos can create conflicts.

Whether you are married, ending a relationship, have children alone or together with your partner, or have been recently separated or apart for some time, you may find yourself struggling with finding agreement in the use of your stored embryos.

It may feel agonizing to discuss how these will be handled, either separately or together, especially if one person in the relationship still wants to have a child with one or more of the embryos and the other does not.

Issues around fertility can sometimes be made more poignant, especially as a result of losses and/or blended family concerns. This can make moving forward especially difficult and painful.

Sometimes it is too difficult for the people involved to come to agreement alone.

Coaching can help you come to an agreement.

Our Coach, Cherie Morris, can help. She will talk with you and your partner about your goals for yourselves and for the embryos.

She will create a framework for discussion that honors each of your hopes and limitations and, by doing so, allows for the possibility of a shift.

Her referral, if needed, to therapeutic help can create a safe space for additional work to help you both find peace with your decision.

Finally, a family law mediator can help you memorialize any additional agreement you may need once you’ve made your final decision.

The relationship ended but not with your pet.

Your relationship has ended, but you still feel a strong attachment to your shared pet. Deciding about pet custody or visitation is problematic.

How do you decide who will care for your beloved animal and who will undertake what may be expensive care of them, too?

It’s much better to be explicit in your goals and expectations once you understand them yourself.

Coaching can help you articulate your goals and expectations.

Our coach, Cherie Morris, can help.

She will listen first and perhaps help you wrestle with questions of staying connected or completely saying “good-bye” to your ex through your decision about future sharing of your pet.

Then, she’ll help you articulate and negotiate an agreement for success.

It may be hard to leave a relationship, but this part can be done well.
